Manufacture of the curved glass screen on Grafton Bridge.

Challenges:

The Grafton Bridge, a NZ Heritage site, was built 100 years ago. Spanning the Grafton Gully at 97m long and 43m above the bottom of the gully, the bridge had become a serious concern for people intent on taking their own lives. A curved glass screen was architecturally designed to serve as a barrier on both sides, as well as a footpath canopy.

Our contract was to manufacture the steel curved Tee Section brackets complete with glass fixing beads.

Global also designed and manufactured the unique expansion joint hinges to allow movement of the glass as the bridge expands and contracts.
